In an advertising supplement to Pensions & Investments February edition, five portfolio managers from Fort Washington Investment Advisors contributed their insight about the fixed income and credit markets. The supplement, titled “Fixed Income & Credit, Steering in Unsettled Waters,” is a precursor to Pension & Investments’ Fixed Income & Credit Symposium on March 19 and 21, of which Fort Washington is a sponsor for the second year in a row.
In the supplement’s article “A Cycle with Time to Run,” Timothy Policinski, CFA, managing director & senior portfolio manager, explained how concerns have shifted from yield to credit in portfolios. Garrick Bauer, CFA, vice president & portfolio manager, commented that the signs the credit cycle might turn down are cautionary, not a warning. Both described how Fort Washington is managing portfolios, adding emerging market debt and investing in sovereign dollar-denominated securities in selective emerging markets. Daniel Carter, CFA, vice president & senior portfolio manager, also contributed to the article with insights about risks to the U.S. economy.
In the article, “Going on the Defense,” Policinski and Carter talked about the yield curve, interest rates, and portfolio positioning. Bauer provided additional insights about investment-grade credit and covenant-lite loans in the articles, “Inside the Growing Triple-B Universe” and “An Attractive Rising-Rate Play?” respectively.
Scott Weston, managing director & senior portfolio manager, commented on the structured securities markets and subsectors like the whole-business ABS market in the article, “Seeking Opportunity in Unusual Places.”
Lastly, Austin Kummer, CFA, assistant vice president & portfolio manager, cautioned investors about managers taking large duration bets in “Go-anywhere Strategy Not a Panacea.”
Fort Washington will also be participating in person at the P&I Symposium in both Dallas and New York City. Policinski and Kummer will lead the workshop presentation, “Complementing the core: Non-traditional multi-sector opportunities for fixed income investors.” Additionally, Zulfi Ali, vice president & senior portfolio manager, will participate in the panel discussion, “Opportunities and risks in emerging market debt.”About Fort Washington Investment Advisors, Inc.
