Western & Southern Financial Group •
Jon Niemeyer

Jonathan D. Niemeyer, senior vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel for Western & Southern Financial Group, has been named president-elect of The Association of Life Insurance Counsel (ALIC), the preeminent association of life insurance counsel in the country. His term begins today, and he takes the gavel as president in May 2019 culminating in the ALIC annual meeting in May 2020.

As ALIC president, Niemeyer will lead the organization’s efforts to further the legal representation of life insurance companies, setting the agenda for ALIC’s annual meeting where the nation’s leading life insurance attorneys will address the legal challenges facing the industry.

Jon is the right choice to lead ALIC as it supports the legal issues challenging life insurance companies.
“Jon’s leadership and expertise have been tremendous assets to Western & Southern,” said John F. Barrett, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Western & Southern. “I am confident he is the right choice to lead ALIC as it supports the legal issues challenging life insurance companies.”

Niemeyer joined Western & Southern in 2001, became vice president and associate general counsel in 2004, was promoted to senior vice president and general counsel in 2010, and was promoted to senior vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel in 2016. He leads Western & Southern's Law Department, including compliance and government relations, and the finance, actuarial, controller, risk management, tax and treasury functions.

Niemeyer was previously with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP and Graydon Head & Ritchey LLP, both in Cincinnati, where he concentrated on corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and securities. He began his legal career at LG&E Energy Corp. in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1993.

Niemeyer earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Kentucky, graduated Order of the Coif from the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he also served as an editor on the UK Law Journal, and became licensed to practice law in Kentucky and Ohio.

The ALIC was established in 1913 for principal counsels of retail life insurance and life reinsurance companies to share educational opportunities and promote fellowship.
